Senior Weyrwoman
The Senior Weyrwoman is usually determined by the first Queen to Rise after the old Queen has retired or died. They may also be decided by being chosen by the Weyrleaders for a new Weyr or by being the eldest non-retired Queen of the Weyr. She is the domestic leader of a Weyr, which means that she decides on matters dealing with the rearing of the children and food storage and usage. She also is in charge of the organization, training, and discipline of the support staff (Drudges, Headwoman, Coooks, Beasthandlers, etc.) in the Weyr.
Most of her duties are delegated to the Junior Weyrwomen and the Headwoman although she oversees it all. The Senior Weyrwoman also acts as a diplomatic ambassdor for her Weyr. She is responsible for relations with other Weyrs, Holds, and Crafthalls. Ultimately all final and major decisions having to do with Candidates are hers to make. Her top priority is her Queen dragon. She is responsible for preparing for Mating, Clutching, and Hatching. The Senior Weyrwoman is the Wingleader of the Queen's Wing and teaches the Junior Weyrwomen to fly in its ranks.Weyrwomen have autonomy in their own Weyr, but will act in concert with other Weyrwomen when necessary for the good of the Weyrs. Golds hold this rank in Canon Pern
Weyrleader
The Weyrleader is determined by the male (for those non-canon games) that catches the Senior Queen when she Flies. The Weyrleader is the 'military' branch of the Weyr. He oversees the Fight Wings and ultimately decides the strategy for Threadfall. Weyrleadership may vary greatly and is determined solely on the Senior Queen's preference. If she is a picky Queen the Weyrleader may not change but once or twice while she is Senior, or it may change frequently. The Weyrleader is a Co-Leader with the Weyrwoman, neither he nor she is higher in rank. He makes sure his Wings are at a proper strength and that they have been well trained. In games without Threadfall he may assign certain Wings specific duties. He chooses the Wingleaders for his Wings. Bronzes or the rare Brown hold this rank in Canon Pern
Junior Weyrwomen
This rank may be held by more than one Queenrider. She gets most of her duties delegated to her by the Senior Weyrwoman. She is usually trained somewhat in Dragonhealing since no dragon will deliberately disobey a Queen's order unless it conflicts with an older Queen's order. She is usually working on 'The Records'. The Records usually consist of Hatching records, Tithe records, Birth/Death records, Promotion records, and Supply records. She is responsible for always being on her best behavior, especially if there are guestes from other Weyrs, Holds, or Crafthalls visitng (and usually there are). She is also required to be properly trained in Wing Formations and should always behave professionally when flying with her Wing. She is stationed in the Queen's Wing as a Wingrider. Golds hold this position in Canon Pern.
Weyrsecond
The Weyrsecond is practically the Wingsecond to the Weyrleader. He assists the Weyrleader in any and all of his duties and may even be assigned specific duties by the Weyrleader. Should the Weyrleader die or be injured and unable to fly anymore it is usually the Weyrsecond that will take his place until the Senior Queen Rises. Bronzes or the rare Brown hold this position in Canon Pern
Wingleader
The Wingleader is usually a Bronze or Brown that is appointed by the Weyrleader to lead a Wing. He is responsible for making sure his Wing is up to strength and trained well. He assigns one or two Wingseconds to act in his stead if he is not capable and to pass his messages around.
Wingsecond
Usually a Bronze or Brown, he is appointed by his Wingleader. He supports the Wingleader by helping communicate his messages. He also acts in stead should the Wingleader be unable to fight Thread.
Wingrider
These are the rest of the dragons not a Wingleader or Wingsecond. They may be any color except Gold but are mostly made up of Greens and Blues although Bronzes and Browns may be seen in a lesser amount. A Wing is usually 75% Green and Blue.
Weyrlingmaster
The Weyrlingmaster may be a Green, Blue, Brown, or Bronze. Along with the Assistant Weyrlingmasters, he teaches the Weyrlings what it is to be a Dragonrider. Some of the things he may teach are Ranks, Flight Formations, Dragon Care, and Dragon Anatomy. He may also recruit special Dragonriders (such a Junior Weyrwoman) to teach special classes (Such as how to control your Queen during a Flight). The Weyrlingmaster is a very important part of the Weyr and he is essential to its smooth operation.
Weyrlings
Weyrlings are all of the immature dragonriders of a clutch. There are no ranks within the Weyrlings, which means that a Gold weyrling has no more pull than a Green weyrlings. Classes usually last for two turns at which the clutch graduates and becomes Wingriders and/or Junior Weyrwomen.
