Queenrider Responsibilities
This will be done in more of a chronological order from Weyrling to Senior Weyrwoman. It is important to note that some Queenriders will never become a Senior Weyrwoman.
Prologue
Queens are special. They are the only dragon(s) which can make more dragons and dragons are romantic. Who wouldn't want to be a dragonrider aside from those odd few? When a Queen goes into Flight there are often bets as to Clutch statistics. One of the most frequent questions asked is
"Do ya think there will be a Queen in this one?". When times are hard and there have been no Queen eggs for a while people start to worry that all of their Queens will grow old and die before one is born. When there are too many in the Weyr it becomes...chaotic. Queens don't like having to share their stock of potential mates. They'll tolerate a few others but usually a Weyr does not have more than 5 Queens at any time. A Queen will purposefully not lay a Queen egg if there are too many, just as they know when to lay more eggs and when to slack off.
What is important to note is that most candidates eligible for Impressing a Queen will harbor secret thoughts about Impressing that beautiful shining egg. Some are prepared for the duties but most are not.
Weyrlinghood
Although Weyrlings have no rank within that one rank, Queen weyrlings are treated differently. That is, they get more classes. They attend such classes as "How to Control your Proddy Queen", "How to Control your Queen in Flight", "What to do with an Egg Heavy Queen", "Queenrider Duties". They also spend much more time on etiquette because they will represent their Weyr as an ambassador. Even if they are transferring to a new Weyr that Weyr will still watch them to see if they have been trained right. While they must also learn Flight Formations they learn what the duties of a Queenrider really are. Sometimes they 'shadow' a Junior Weyrwoman for a day or two to help them get an idea of just what they are supposed to do.
Weyrlinghood is not so much more different for a Queenrider than it is for other riders. They will most likely never go into Flight before Graduation.
Junior Weyrwoman
A Junior Weyrwoman gets her duties from the Senior Weyrwoman, so they can vary at times. They can also vary on the personality of the Senior Weyrwoman. If she is a control freak it is less likely that she is going to delegate work to her Juniors. However if she is lazy they will probably be doing a lot of work around the Weyr. Many times, in a game, you hear these Queenriders talk about Records. Records do consist of the majority of Junior Weyrwoman's duties. These records include Hatching Records, Birth Records, Death Records, Tithe Records, Weather Records, Special Records (Odd Occurances), Plague Records, and many other such records. The Senior Weyrwoman can also have them check and make sure that the Weyr has enough supplies
to operate smoothly. The Junior Weyrwoman may also work side by side with the Headwoman and Assistand Headwoman in their duties. The important thing to understand is that any Weyrwoman is dedicated (or supposed to be) to a properly running Weyr. That means making sure that it has all the supplies and food it needs, that Weyrlings are being properly trained, and that all but honor disputes between Riders and Residents are settled in a nonviolent manner. Perhaps the most important duty that a Junior Weyrwoman has is the management of her Queen. She is in charge of the matters pertaining to the reproduction of her dragon. Sometimes the Senior Weyrwoman will foster a very promising weyrbrat with a Junior Weyrwoman to encourage that potential. Sometimes they will be requested to teach certian classes to new Queen weyrlings.
Senior Weyrwoman
So your Queenrider made it to become a Senior Weyrwoman, eh? Well her duties aren't that much different from the Junior Weyrwoman except that she is the one delegating work down. The Headwoman and Steward report directly to her and she is the final decision on all domestic matters. She decides what to do with the children, the residents, and the stores of supplies they have. She is in charge of making sure that the Weyr gets their Tithes and that the Tithes are correct. If they are not correct it is her duty to go down to the correct Hold and figure out why. She acts as an ambassador to all other Weyrs, Holds, and Crafthalls. While she co-leads the Weyr alongside her Weyrleader it is still her responsibilitie to make sure that the Weyr works with other Weyrs for the Weyrs own good. While it is possible for a Weyrwoman to have time to foster and have children of her own, responsible Senior Weyrwomen find that very
hard to do because of lack of time. Their dragons are their first and foremost priority. If they are the only Queenrider in a Weyr then that Weyr depends on her for survival. She is in charge of all matters pertaining to the Flight, Clutch, and Hatching of her dragon. She also helps the Junior Weyrwomen if they have questions about Flights, Clutching, and Hatching.
